My Dad pretty much always had his clerical collar on while he was serving UMC churches. In NYC it just make his life so much easier in so many ways. Besides pastoring a church he was also a Navy and an FDNY chaplain but in the Navy he wore a different uniform. :-)
TV shows take all sorts of shortcuts in this sort of show. I don't think they care about reality as much as making the script fit the time and story outline that they have come up with.
I wonder if they used St Ann's for the name to make sure no real UMC church name was used? :-)
